NBA Rumors nba 2011 Atlanta Hawks In Tough Spot With Crawford, Horford
The Atlanta Hawks were the first and only team to retain one of the top free agents in the free-agent frenzy of 2010. With Joe Johnson signing a mammoth, max contract to stay down South, what the heck do the Hawks do now? Johnson is a great player, but he’s certainly not a leader as we’ve learned over the years.nba 2011 That’s why the team is stuck between extending Al Horford past his own rookie contract, and giving Jamal Crawford an extension of his own.
The obvious choice is retaining Al Horford, a 6-foot-10, 245 pound banger who is listed as a center. Sure, he played center in college and the Hawks seem firmly convinced that they can actually be competitive with Horford as their biggest player. nba 2011 But if you’ve seen him try to match up against real centers like Dwight Howard, Chris Kaman or Emeka Okafor then you know that Horford isn’t really a center. In truth, Horford has the playing style and body of a power-forward even though the Hawks won’t admit it. The league is virtually devoid of centers these days. You’re rarely going to find a big man as talented as Dwight Howard. Still teams like the Celtics and Lakers have made good with dual power-forward systems. It’s not like Horford is a useless player at center, but he needs a real power-forward to play beside, or inversely he needs a true center.
